The National Hardware Show

Greenstone Wholesale staff attended the 2008 National Hardware Show in Las Vegas. You may have seen us there or visited one of our supplier's booths. The star of the show was one of our leading cedar garden structures manufacturers; Outdoor Living Today. Their booth featured the Breeze pergola, a 9x6 Cabana, a Little Squirt Playhouse, and a 6x3 Grand Garden Chalet.

We spent most of our time looking for new products to distribute to our Northern California retailers and tried to limit the casino time to a minimum!

The site will also serve as a “take home” marketing tool for the retail sales staff and the consumer. For example, the consumer will be able to pull up the website at home to view product details, specs, and retail pricing. To make the purchase, the customer will need to contact the retailer. With the consumer’s order in hand, the retailer can either use their in house purchasing process or return to the website and log in to purchase. When it comes down to adding a storage shed or playhouse to the backyard, the twin urges to do it yourself and have a quality structure can meet. We sell kits for assembling a variety of attractive outdoor buildings in western red cedar, which is similar to redwood in its qualities.
We offer everything from elaborate gazebos to potting benches in precut panels -- including already installed windows and roof-shingle panels -- that are shipped in 4-by-8-foot boxes. Some of the most popular sheds are the 9-by-6-foot Cabana, the Yardsaver and the Rancher. Other charmers are the angled-roofed sunhouse, the playhouse, and the gardener's shed.
All the hardware is included with the instructions. There are several ways to customize. For example, a garden shed comes with two windows and a Dutch door that can go on either end or along the side. Steven Hopper of Mill Valley, a former landscaper, bought a rancher because he was "sleeping with my tools" and found that it easily accommodated all his garden tools and a work bench. "I put in lighting and use it as an office as well," he said. With a few friends, he was able to construct the 8-by-10-foot shed in six hours. The cedar is a lightweight wood with natural oils that block infestation, and it offers good insulation and a "rich aroma. It has a real mouth to it."

OPTIONAL OSB PLYWOOD ROOF

With any customer's shed order, you can offer them a 10% discount by special ordering the cedarshed without cedar shake shingles. The customer will get an OSB roof and then apply a roofing material of their choice. This is a great way to keep the cost down, or get that shed sale from a consumer who is looking to match roofing styles with their home.

Keep in mind that lead time is a bit longer, because we mainly stock the standard shed kits WITH a shake shingle roof. In stock sheds can be delivered to your retail location within one week, and special orders are usually 3 weeks out.

Marin Backyard is a playhouse and swing set dealer in Mill Valley, CA on the east side of Hwy 101. Their company should have good success with the Greenstone product line considering their market area and customer base.

Rolling Hills Garden Center in Buellton, CA is a wonderful nursery in Santa Barbara County. We met with the decision makers at the NORCAL Horticultural Show in San Mateo this past January. They bought 4 new display sheds and 1 gazebo to launch the product line at their location. Our new displays are right next to the restaurant "The Hitching Post" (made famous from the movie Sideways).

The new items fit well into Greenstone’s existing catalog of gazebos, sheds, and pergolas. This new product line offers Greenstone the ability to sell a sturdy, earthquake ready garden shed. For example, Outdoor Living’s shed construction includes a plywood veneer in the wall panel between the exterior siding and the interior stud. This give the shed’s wall panel more sheer strength and protects the siding from being kicked out. Another distinguishing factor for this line of garden sheds is the high quality, premium roofing shingle.
